Advice on web building?

I have no idea about building a web site,I want to have an online florist shop and need a website but have no idea on costs or even if i can build one myself. I don't have very much cash so need a cheap one.

Edit: I would strongly suggest against Frontpage, as it is a horrible program that puts all sorts of unnecessary in your code, and requires special extensions on your web hoster to work properly.

Reply:If you want to build a website then go to freewebs where you can build one for free, you will get help all the way from the start to finish and also you will recieve great templates.





Also as you are a florist they have some good florist templates as well.





Its easy i built one with freewebs.

Reply:You'll need a domain name and webhosting to start with; i got mine from www.heartinternet.co.uk, i registered a domain for 2 years and got 2 years free basic hosting with php and cgi scripts that auto-install.





If your selling flowers online you may want to get a paypal or worldpay account. I would recommend paying someone to create your site if your not experienced as it will look unprofessional and unattractive to your customers.

You could probably get a cheap website (~$300) designed from service websites such as elance.com, guru.com or rentacoder.com. If you are more hands on type of person you could try and teach yourself HTML %26amp; CSS - a good place to do this is at w3schools.com. You could even get a free web design template from websites such as opensourcetemplates.org and then make minor changes to customise it yourself.

You will need to have a database driven site. Avactis have a good shopping cart system with full backend so that you can add products etc. The nice thing about Avactis as well is that the default template is for a florist. That means that at least in the short term you wont have to pay someone to redesign it fo you. Avactis is about $200 so is still cheaper than having some design a website for you plus you get a full backend so you wont even need to know html or css :)





Once you have a website you tehn will have ongoing costs. These include domain name (approx $10 per year) and hosting (approx $10 per month)
