Will a florist tell someone who sent them flowers?

My friend received a dozen roses from a secret admirer for Valentine's Day. She has no idea who they are from, however she works as a health professional and is concerned that it they may be from an unstable patient. She is wondering if the flower shop who delivered them will disclose the senders name or any other type of information. Is there some sort of florist code of ethics here? She is concerned for her safety as am I. Thanks.

Will a florist tell someone who sent them flowers?
It depends on how exactly the flowers were ordered... If the flowers were ordered on-line/ by phone and the florist that delivered them is simply a contractor they may not have any information regarding who ordered the flowers...

Your friend should contact the florist who delivered the flowers and ask them for any information they may have....

In the meantime your friends should place the flowers out of public view... If someone unstable did send them they will undoubtedly be encouraged if they see the flowers displayed...
Reply:all the florist could do is say no...so tell your friend to ask anyway. Once I got flowers at work (my new husband didn't have a credit card and was out of town and asked me to buy flowers for myself and have them sent to work. I felt strange about doing that but he said he wanted me to be like the other girls and all of them had flowers, so at noon I ordered them.) When they arrived the supervisor came over to me and said "I know you bought those for yourself". I thought I'd die a thousand deaths. She had the nerve to call the florist and ask for the info. sigh
Reply:Most florists will not tell you who sent the flowers if asked not to. If there isa safety question invloved, I would call the manager of the store, tell them that you are concerned abou the person who sent them to you and ask if it was X. THey may or may not say and you need to be careful that you don't violate andy confidentially rules by using his name (i.e. can't say he is "unstable") If it is a really serious concern, go to the police and have thm trace the order.
Reply:well I don't know what the situation is but if she feels threatened by this person and this person has done something else...like show up at her door or call continuously she could file a police report. I had to do this when someone was stalking me. If it isn't that serious I wouldn't do it but you never know. The guy she filed against wouldn't find out unless he got in trouble. Then maybe the officer can ask the florist and they are more likely to tell him. If I were her I would explain the situation to the florist and they might tell you. If not, and other things happen, there is always the police.
Reply:Some florists have the customer's confidentiality so I really doubt that they will disclose any information. But you could try, maybe this one will give it to you without batting an eyelash.
Reply:She should just ask the florist and see what they say.
Reply:I called once to enquire. They would not tell me. I am sure it is different everywhere. I would call and ask.
Reply:If the sender of the flowers requests that his/her identity not be revealed, then most florists would honor that.

Can you start a new plant from the roses you get at the florist?

I would like to start a rose bush from a rose I got at the flower shop how could I do this?

Can you start a new plant from the roses you get at the florist?
yes, cut about six inches at the tip. remove all leaves. soak the lower tip in a root enhancer than trush you forefinger to a pot with garden mix. insert the rose twig to the hole made by finger to a depth of 2 inches. press the coil around the rose twig. water it and cover the whole including the pot with a clear plastic to minimize evaporation. try it
Reply:Sure you can. You a solution which is called by many names but most stores carry then with the name "cloning solution" or some variant of that. You simply soak the cut end of the flower in the cloning solution for a time which is specified on the bottle. You then simply plant the flower. At least 3-4 inches of the step should be buried in the potting soil and with a little luck your flower will start growing.

What books would be good to use whlie becoming a florist?

Theres a shop for sale and Dad's pushing me to get it. I just know how to water plants thats all. Theres a woman willing to work for me.

What books would be good to use whlie becoming a florist?
Visual Merchandising for the Retail Florist is a good book it really helps with the indoor visualizing that will make or break a business.

FabJob Guide to Become a Florist is unfortunately only available at FabJob.com, but at least its only about $40. This book on the other hand has everything! Its like a one stop shop for florists. It has everything from running the place to picking appropriate themes and advertising.

Starting a business is a huge responsibility for some people its easy, for others its very difficult. The first thing that’s going to shock you is your overhead its always more than you expect. If you need any help don’t be afraid to ask someone. Its better to get opinions than it is to get blindsided.

I’m always happy to help another entrepreneur.

What are you doing with all the flowers and candy the Iraqis are giving us for liberating them?

Boy that Cheney he is never wrong. My house looks like a florist shop at this point. They are so grateful to America for liberating them it is unbelievable.

How do I tell the world that someone is using my personal information to make purchases?

Verizon warned me that someone had a phone in my name in a city where I do not live and do not have relatives. Someone called me last night from Florida and informed me that an unidentified person was using my personal information to make purchases. Several years ago, someone ordered flowers in my name at a florist shop in Montana--a place I have never been to--and that person apparently did not have the funds to cover a check written. I do not have contacts in these places, yet someone claiming to be me uses my information just as easily as if it were me. Enough is enough. What do I do America?

How do I tell the world that someone is using my personal information to make purchases?
You have let this go on for several years? You need your head examined for letting this go on and on. Identify theft is one of the fastest growing problems in the U.S!

Call your bank or credit union. Close all accounts and either reopen them with a different name, or move to another banking facility. Notify your credit card company and stop all charges to your credit card. You are entitled to one free credit report from all three agencies a year, and here's where to start:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/i...

Notify any one of them that you want to file a Fraud Report. this only lasts for 90 days, but it's a start. Keep after them to get all three credit reports (it might be better to call or write them, addresses are shown). that way, you can state the facts and demand your free credit report. Dispute anything in any of them that is wrong. You can eventually clear your credit, but it will take work and effort on your part to do it. No one can do it for you.
Reply:This seems like you are a victim of identity fraud.

Have you checked your credit reports? Check your monthly credit card statements to see if unfamiliar purchases are being made. Speak to your bank to see if anything has been done in your name that you are not aware of. If there are problems there, put a fraud alert on your account.

To protect yourself, do not give your social security number out to ANYBODY, except an employer AFTER you get hired.

Be VERY careful where you do online purchases. Use only reputable sites that have encryption technology to secure your information.

Use a box number for your home address and be very selective about who you give your home address to. The same can apply to your date of birth.

Keep all bills, credit card receipts, mortgage statements, etc. in a safe place where nobody can use them. If you need to dispose of anything with personal information on it, shred them before doing so.

Do an annual credit check to see if there are any issues of somebody else figuring into your accounts and report any incident right away.

As for what you can do now - if you find anything going on - ask the people reporting these incidents to you to put it in writing (as how do you know this is somebody from Verizon, for example). After you get it in writing, then report it to your nearest police station's fraud unit.

I hope this is helpful.
Reply:Tell the police or FBI and cancel all your personal information. And let then find out if its true you might want to call your lawyer, but find out if its true or not.
Reply:Check your credit through Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. You get one free credit report per year. Use the credit report to find out whether someone has opened accounts or had credit checks done on you in your name. If so, you must notify these agencies at once so they can put an alert on your credit. Monitor your bank accounts closely to make sure there is no unauthorized activity. Call your banks and credit cards to let them know what is happening. I'm not sure much can be done to catch the person if he or she hasn't actually charged things to you, but you can try. Also file police reports in your city and in the cities where unauthorized use of your information has occured.
Reply:Contact all 3 major credit reporting agencies and put a fraud hold on your record.

Pull your credit report from all 3 and notify any companies listed that you do not do business with that someone is fraudulently using your identity with them and that you will not be responsible for any outstanding charges. Provide proof of your identity if they request it.

Notify your local police. And notify the police in any jurisdictions where your identity was used illegally.
Reply:Contact all 3 major credit agencies NOW!!!!

Equifax is one...
Reply:go to the police
Reply:go to the cops about it,
Reply:Try the sites below.
Reply:Go to the police in your town.
Reply:You have no clue what you're talking about. Do you even have credit cards? You would most definitely have known by now if someone stole your identity.

Maybe YOU have SOMEONE Else's name?

Where can I find a mailbox with polka dots?

I noticed lots of mailboxes in my community that are either solid black or white. The have dots scattered across them with the last initial. I don't want to paint them on the mailbox, %26amp; at one florist shop 1 was $50.00, way too much.. Some have vinyl dots on them. Where do you get them?

Perhaps one of these will help
Reply:Why not just buy a roll of contact paper, draw some circles on it, cut them out and stick them to the mail box?
Reply:I just found one on ebay It says they are magnets. Try to buy some magnets and do it that way. Then you can paint the magnets and not your mailbox. I hope this helped you.

What's the best way to select quality potted plants at the markets?

I'm doing an assignment on potted foliage and flower plants I can't seem to find the answer to, i need information on the following:

- select quality potted plants at the markets

- box/ package %26amp; transport the plans to the florist shop

- care for the plants until sold

I've got some books but the information is not what I am looking for..

do you know any good articles or websites would be helpful?

Thank you in advance.

What's the best way to select quality potted plants at the markets?
Try Hoirticulture Week for trade information:

www.hortweek.com

or the Royal Horticultural Society for general tips and advice:

www.rhs.org.uk

Generally, you should look for plants that have a healthy apprearance, lush, even foliage and are in flower bud but not actually flowering. Plants are usually transpported in boxes or on Dutch trolleys for larger quantities. Care until sale would be things like watering, removing dead leaves / flowers, protection from frost and perhaps feeding.
Reply:do a course at college
Reply:What you need to do is to go talk to the owner/buyer at a florist, do an interview. Tho most florists, nurseries, etc just pick up the phone, call their wholesaler, place their order, and the shipping and everything is done for them. I worked at a garden center for 16 years and not once did we ever go pick out our own plants. Salesmen called on us.There are also florist wholesalers with whom you could talk, they should be listed in a phone book inyour area.
Reply:Most of the plants that arrive at the markets are quality plant, however the markets have a tendency to ruin them through lack of appropriate care. Wal-Mart is horrible when it comes to caring for their plants and Lowes is not much better. The best they get is overhead watering which usually results in plants not getting enough moisture or black spot and fungal diseases. When I look for plants at garden centers or markets, I carefully inspect the plant for disease, I check the soil for moisture, and I remove the plant from the container to check the roots to see if they are sick or root bound. These things don't always keep me from purchasing a plant, but they do keep me from purchasing a plant at full price. It appears that most of the questions you are asking about packaging, transportation, and care would be better answered by someone with first hand knowledge. Someone at a garden center.

Good Luck

Why is it good to have an internship during college?

For example, my major is business management. If I had a year of an internship how would that help me? Do people ever get paid for internships? I'm contemplating talking to the owner of a florist shop and seeing what I can do. Any suggestions of what I should tell them?

Why is it good to have an internship during college?
I agree with what the others said.

But look for an internship in a field you want to work in in the future. IF working for a florist or small box retailer is your goal then put together a resume of your school work (and any previous relevant past employment) and give it to them ....... and a way to contact your internship advisor on campus who can explain what hosting an intern is all about. You want to be sure you wont just be a gopher. You want to learn things.. make a list of the things you want to gain from the experience and make sure they can offer that.

If your ultimate goal is to work for a financial planning company or stock trading...whatever.. then dont waste your time at a florist. Ask your academic advisor for assitance placing you where you WANT to be. It will be easier to get the job you want after grad. if you plan carefully now. An internship is usually not paid but you have to think of it as an investment... after graduation if you have good experience you will land a better job with better pay.

Good luck
Reply:1. Most of the time what you actually do at a real job isn't what they teach you at school, internships prepare you just for that.

2. It increases your "Market Value" as an employee when you're applying fo ra job because you already have experience.
Reply:Internships are useful in college for two reasons:

1.) College classes rarely prepare you for the high level work that is asked of employees whom have higher education degrees, internships give you practical knowledge of the various machinations of business.

2.) It allows you to network with the business community, alot of times people whom intern out to a corporation are guaranteed a job with them after graduating.

Most times nowadays people do get paid roughly 10-12 an hour for internships, depending on the state. For an internship I would go to a larger corporation, local florist shops will only help you if you intend to open your own business upon graduating.
Reply:internships give you a heads up over others in that you have begun to work in a professional environment while still in school. if your lucky an internship may help shape what your final course of studies might be as you get a chance to try out different aspects of your major. If you are working for a large company you most likely will get paid. if you are working for a non profit using your buinsess skills chances are you will be used more as a volunteer, but it all depends. if you have a chance to get one do it. the extra work is worth it

How much would a single orchid OR lily cost from a flower shop?

1. Preferably in Toronto, Canada.

2) I want to wear a flower in my hair for a party. Do florists even sell loose orchids/lilies?

3) How much time do I need to give the florist to actually get hold of an orchid? Do they ship them from elsewhere? I have five days to get hold of a flower.

4) I'm thinking of red. Are red ones more rare/expensive?

5) Links to Toronto flower shops would be helpful. Thanks in advance! :)

How much would a single orchid OR lily cost from a flower shop?
around 20 dollars.
Reply:All florists will sell loose flowers, ie, single ones (in the UK, anyway). A lily or orchid will will likely wilt too quickly in the heat of a party.

However, a red gerbora would look stunning (and has a good thick stem to stick into your hair, if it's up).

I would still check with your florist though, and ask for one to be put aside for you.

Any advice and mentorsip available for a florist and gift business??

I am trying to find professional advice and a mentor to find additional stratgies to keep my florist and gift shop afloat. Any suggestions would be appreciated A.S.A.P!!!

Any advice and mentorsip available for a florist and gift business??
I am assuming you are having serious money problems right now, so I will give you some down and dirty advice to turn around your shop ASAP.

Your first priority is to pay your wholesalers, pay your rent, pay the wire services, and then pay your self in that order.

Are you a florist? If your Gross sales are under $300000 (if your sales are above 300K then you have a purchasing/Sell through problem, Different set of problems), fire all your employees after mother’s day, with exception of the Driver. Hire a young happy/bouncy high school girl for after school 3 days a week and pay them $6.00 per hour (or minimum wage if your state has a higher Minimum Wage). Trained Florists can be paid good money, and that will eat at the bottom line. Do the work yourself, Put in the long hours needed. The Happy Bouncy high school girl will, more then likely have lots of friends and she will tell here friends where she works, you will get prom corsage / Boutonniere work out of here, Maybe graduation work. Word of mouth is cheap advertising.

If you are not a florist, learn… Ask your best designer to show you, every day. Holidays are coming and it’s best to have a second or third hand in the shop.

Expand your hours. You should be working at a min from 9am to 6:30pm Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursdays and Fridays 9am to 7pm (a lot of people get paid on Thursdays). Saturdays 9 to 5 Sundays (yes Sundays) 10-1.

90% of all advertising done to florist is for gifts, but only 10% of your sales will come form gifts. Stop buying gift items, No Silks either – A silk arrangement is a one-time sale you need repeat sales.

No Billing %26amp; No checks – Credit cards and Cash only. Certain People you will have to bill, Schools townships, Fire deptments ECT. No Personal billing. You cannot go into a supermarket or burger king and say bill me. People never want to pay after the flowers are delivered.

If you have billed people and there behind, call them and nicely ask for payment. Remember it’s your money.

For the people that you have to bill, Send the bill right away, do not what until the end of the month, The quicker you bill the quicker you’ll get paid.

Buy fewer flowers, Remember to buy only the amount of flowers that you can sell in 2-3 days. More frequent buying will translate into fresher flowers. Fresher flowers will mean repeat customers.

Limit special orders, Your customer wants a orchid corsage for tomorrow and you don’t have any flowers coming up, Tell them no, If it’s for later in the week or you do have flowers coming up then sure, but if you have to pay $6.50 to $8.00 for shipping of stem of orchids that you got $20.00 for a corsage, You lost money.

Limit your delivery area and your delivery times; this one is hard without knowing where you are. I keep my driver on form 10 to 2 every day (No Deliveries on Sundays), Later during holidays. Things will come up that I will make some deliveries my self after hours, but I do not make it a rule.

Get rid of Wire services. If your sales are 300k or under you should really only have one service Teleflora or FTD. You only make 70 cents on the dollar, so if you get lots of incoming, but can’t send the 20 order min per service then it will cost you $10 to $22 per order received, depending on service. Take net $ orders received and divide by fees. See for yourself.

Be honest with people about what you can and cannot do. If you cannot make an arrangement for them in the next ten minutes, tell them. Or if you do not have enough pink flowers to make an all pink bouquet. Tell them, but also give them suggestions of what you can do. Always let the customers make the final decision.

Sell what you got, special order only when you have to.

Control waste. When I went to florist school they would tell us to dump the garbage on the floor at the end of the night, too see what your florist are throwing out and make arrangements out of the good scrap. Never sell Garbage (past there prime or blooms missing petals) flowers and never display garbage flowers.

Turn on the lights; your place should be so bright that there is no question that you are open.

Clean the glass, vacuum the floor every night.

Limit your sales / specials – Constant sales will give your store the perception of low quality.

Buy seasonal flowers, Don’t get stuck on the names of the flowers unless it’s a wedding, You need pink roses ask your wholesaler for pink roses not livia, pecabo or titanic. You are looking for price, If the product is bad, send it back – But your wholesaler will expect you to take up to a 10% loss if you are buying by the box, If you are complaining about a few roses out of 300 then they will charge you more next time because you don’t know what your doing.

Remember cheaper flower prices for the customer will in the long run mean more sales for you in the long run.

I hope this was helpful, and not to much of a ramble. Peter
Reply:Retail is brutal. First, figure out your breakeven. How much do you have to sell each day/hour just to restock and keep the lights on? With that number, figure out where you are gonna get the sales. The most important asset that you have is your customer list. You have a customer list, right? If not, you will need to build one - fast. Look for all the ways to collect customer info - credit card receipts, checks, business cards, sign up sheets for mailings/newsletters, etc. It is much cheaper and easier to sell to existing customers than acquirig new customers. Everything else is noise and should be avoided until you are on safe footing.

What are you looking for when you are at an online flower shop?

I am an online florist. There are so many online florists around. How can we differentiate ourselves from the others? If you were the online customer, what would you look for (price? design?) at the online flower shop?

What are you looking for when you are at an online flower shop?
I usually look at whats available in my price range and if they deliver where I want them to go. It would be nice if you had variations of the types of flowers you could send. Like 2 or three different options of the types of flowers in each arrangement. But usually price is the first factor.
Reply:cheap, good selection, reliable, can deliver to my location.
Reply:A florist that let you pick what flowers you want in an arrangement - the average person knows what flowers they want but we only get standard arrangements to chose from online. A customer would be sure of what the recipient will receive that way.

Ways To Improve Florists Shop?

I have a florists shop and despite being situated in a pretty busy place, buisiness is'nt very well and the profit is'nt very much.

Does anybody have any ideas to improve buisiness? All ideas are welcome, and I'd be pretty grateful too!!

Ways To Improve Florists Shop?
Have you taken a look at your competition and tried to figure out what you could offer that people in your community would enjoy but that your competition is not providing. Something unique and unusual that would set you apart from your competition.

In addition to asking here at Yahoo! Answers, I would ask people in the area that your florist shop is located what they would like the most.

In many communities, flowers that are 1). grown organically would be very popular, 2). flowers that are grown locally - especially any from community supported agriculture (CSA), and 3). heirloom varieties - are three related and interesting types of products that might create a lot of interest in your shop.

Plants in great containers - for both the patio or back yard as well as for the inside of the house. I especially like displays of forced bulbs for interiors. Container gardening is very popular and could be a good fit with a florist shop.

If there is enough space inside or just outside your shop, there might be a couple of local artists, especially water colorists, who could teach simple workshops on flower painting or still life using your flowers.

To generate a long list of creative ideas to increase consumer interest in your business, you might want to check out Jay Conrad Levinson's book "Guerrilla Marketing" (and other information on the subject).

I wish you much success.

Reply:personally i'd want low prices, great products (to be honest flowers from tesco/asda last a lot longer than those from a florist and are cheaper!), and good customer service.

i know my dad uses the same florist for my mum - they remind him a week or two before her birthday, anniversary etc and take his order! i think that's good for both the customer and the business itself, perhaps you could do something like that?

also think outside the box a little - do you take customers email address (or any other contact details) and let them know about special offers etc?

for some business advice you could also try http://www.newbiztips.net/

hope this helps, good luck x
Reply:i would recommend that you get professional advice from a former florist who was successful. i have many questions to ask you, but i would have to charge you, and that is exactly what you are trying to avoid. good luck, you will need it.
Reply:I worked for a florist many years ago and recently sold a food outlet and the gross profit margin should be 60/65% minimum.

With the info you supply I would firstly look at your supplier and his prices and secondly at your presentation of the goods for sale.Putting at it`s basic level, a few daffs thrown in a bucket won`t look very inviting, whereas a spray of pampas grass or stephanosis will tart them up.

Do you work the shop yourself. or do you have staff? What is the relation of the staff to your customers? Nobody wants to be served by a stroppy assistant.

With regard to your supplier, the cheapest isn`t always the most cost effective in terms of shelf life etc.

With a view to expanding your field of operation, are there any businesses in the area that would take regular dried arrangements in their reception areas.

The options are endless, if I can be of any further assistance, please don`t hesitate to mail me.

Good luck.

If you had to choose a career would you be a hypnotherapist or a florist?

I'm a bartender but I want to either become a hypnotherapist and have my own practice or a florist and have my own flower shop. If you had to choose between the two, would it be a hypnotherapist or a flower shop owner? I appreciate your opinions very much. Thank you.

If you had to choose a career would you be a hypnotherapist or a florist?
I think you've been drinking too much outta the mat. Who comes up with 2 totally different and distinct like those??...then asks random strangers to help make their decision.
Reply:Hypnotherapist is a person who can solve people's problems, thereby relieving them of their pains of this life or earlier life forms.

But question is real cool.

Florist can also do the same to the person in question (with problems), but could not lead to therapy of earlier lives.(If I may say so.)
Reply:I'd be a florist.
Reply:I'd rather be a florist, but alas, I have no talent.
Reply:While I do love flowers and wouldn't mind being surrounded by beauty all day long, I'd rather be a hypnotherapist (than a florist). My academic training (Social Psychology) makes me a shoo-in to be one.
Reply:Considering the stress of the job you currently have, I'd choose the florist. As a hypnotherapist, first you have to get people to trust you, then you get to hear their problems just like you already are doing, then you have to pretend that what gory details you just heard don't bother you. When you make floral arrangements, you get the pleasure of creating beauty. It is relaxing and immediate satisfaction from the arrangements made. You get to make people happy. You don't have people avoiding you like they're afraid that you're going to slip and tell one of their secrets. As with any business of working for yourself, you're going to have the stress of coping with the in's and out's. At least as a florist, you can do a test run by getting a job at one and trying it to see if you even like it. Enjoy.

I am the owner of a family run flower shop. I need to find florists very quickly, where should I turn?

The thing is that I have the flower shop in Miami, Florida. And we get most of our florists by word of mouth. Because of some changes in the business, we have lost some florists. I have been looking everywhere looking to find quality florists, but no luck. Is there perhaps a website that I can post info on and will get noticed? I was hoping to do this at cost effectively as possible. Thank you very much.

Florist long island flower shop?

Does anyone know a good florist in Long island? suffolk county?

Florist long island flower shop?
In Sayville(on Main St.),there's a florist called The Ramblin' Rose. They've been there forever,do nice work and are reasonable. James Cress is very reputable (Smithtown) but very pricey. DO NOT go to Towers Flowers in West Islip. They did my wedding, they were late and the flowers were awful. I went there another time for an Easter bouquet and a couple of the flowers were half dead. My mom used to work for Mayer's Flower Cottage (rt 112 in Patchogue) I haven't dealt with them in a long time but priced them for my brothers wedding and they were one of the most expensive but they've been around for a long time (family run) and have done nice work in the past. Beebe's in Brightwaters has a good reputation.

Hope this helps

you'd have to register your business name and abn number, you can then contact the flower whoolesalers and start an account.
Reply:You probably also need to check state regulations to see if you need to be licensed to be a florist.

I want to open a florist shop . what are steps to be taken?
To learn the basics, tricks and tactics of the trade, what I could foresee the shortest possible practical short-cuts; work under a good florist for some time. Work overtime to understand each and every aspect, read relevant guide books simultaneously - have all your questions / doubts clarified with practical hands on actual work.

This may sound cumbersome but if you really wish to learn practical aspects (and you don't know them) a kind of training and working knowledge would help you immensely to organise and manage your prospective venture.
Reply:First you should get a business license if necessary, depending on where you live. Next, visit flower farms and talk to the growers about your interest in opening up a shop. They should give you some pointers, not about how to run your business but more about taking care of their flowers. You should from there shop around and find the best quality flowers that will differentiate you from your competitors. Then negotiate a contract with your supplier. They will give you pointers as to what flowers sell the best. Make sure to ask what other buyers are purchasing. Visit other florists and take into consideration what arrangements as well as what flowers are offered and for what price. From there, you should have all the fundamentals of opening shop. Sometimes, local government will have departments specializing in helping out small businesses.
Reply:the paper work is quite tough....but be prepared..i think u shud specfiy ur location.. as the florist bi is griwng day by day.. as per demand... as many flowers are usually come from other countries..and there are retail market at various locations within india.. and new ideas and new arrangemnet of flowers.. is very esential ...u nned to learn them as u can visit many sites....search google or yahoo for this.. as u ill the know shell life of flowers.. and temeperatures nneded to maintain them ...and patterns ..which can be made so that can soothe someone eyes..

as i can't tell u about varities.. as i am not botany professor..but u can visit many shops.. and confirm..and visit many websites..
Reply:you REALLY have to finish the paper works,. then start odering some flowers.
Reply:You need to write a business plan. There are many software packages on the market that can help you with this. You will probably be much more prepared and more successful if you have a plan. It sounds boring and tedious and I think human nature is to just jump in and get going - but if you make a good plan you will not regret it.

You need to do some research and think it through - mark ups, profit margin, location, advertising, suppliers, competition etc.

It is almost New Years, why don't you make a resolution to pay attention to small things you could do to make your wife feel cared for. You can't send her flowers tomorrow, cause she will know you did it out of guilt, but what about doing so in March, or June? Look around for other ways to tell her you love her, especially when it isn't a special occasion. It will mean a lot to her.

You guys could get anything you want if you just played your cards right.
Reply:Send her flowers in a couple weeks at work or something and just make it a point to do nice stuff for her more often.
Reply:Sounds like your wife needs to learn that there is a lot more to a marriage than flowers and presents. I hope she's a better woman than what you've described her as. Cause so far, she seems like a very materialistic and ungrateful person.
Reply:Oh my-of course now you can't go right out and buy some-wait until Valentines Day and do it right!

Reply:Wow... That must have been a slap on the face... Well, I think your best option is to be spontaneously romantic. This is your chance to shine! Create something special! Make her feel like she's all you need for Christmas and all the materialistic things dont matter when your with her. Good Luck! Merry Christmas!!!!!
Reply:surprise her with something betterthan flowers. or you could add the flowers to the surprise.
Reply:go out and get her better and a lot more flowers and be like see i get flowers for the best girl ever too (: !!!!!!
Reply:Now you have to make plans and fast. First, make a reservation at the finest restaurant for dinner and dancing. After which take her back home, leaving 1 flower and say but I am the one who loves you.
Reply:Dude.why waste tiime here; send her some damn flowers! Sheesh!
Reply:Your wife probably asked her friend to send her flowers to try to make a point. If she tells you she likes something, do it, regardless of whether you think it's stupid!

Send her flowers, d@mmit!
Reply:She's too needy. Flowers are flowers. My dad hardly ever gets my mom flowers, maybe once every couple of years. Most men don't buy flowers, but some men love to do those sorts of things. Don't buy her flowers just bc she said that to you. She's trying to make you feel bad (which she obviously did) so you send her some. Forget it. Do something else more special instead of flowers. It's not all about the material things you know.
Reply:SURPRISE HER THEN
Reply:haha! well then surprise her with flowers more often.
Reply:OUCH
Reply:Just don't send her right now because she would know that you are only doing it because she said that. Wait about a month and send her flowers at her job with an invitation to dinner. That should get you off the hook for a little while. In the mean time hope you got her a really nice Xmas present.

To Work In A Flower Shop Do You Need Training Or To Take Florist Classes?

Do you have to have floral training or experience? Or will they hire someone who has never taken any classes and train them? Im talking about just a flower shop in the mall.

To Work In A Flower Shop Do You Need Training Or To Take Florist Classes?
As a florist, I can tell you that it varies by person.

When I went to work for the first time, I was inexperienced and learned on the job. That gave me the incentive to pursue an associates degree in floriculture.

I have seen girls with experience hired....that have proved to be a mistake. Often times they over exagerate their abilities.

I have also seen newbees come in and they can be easily trained because they haven't learned any bad habits.

If i were you, I would go and talk to the manager. Express your interest in the job and let them know that you are willing to learn and do your best.

Chances are, they will take your name down and contact you...especially with Mothers Day and prom time just around the corner.

don't expect to start "arranging" right away. You may have telephone duty for a while, until you learn. Be eager to learn and do you best....don't get discouraged, if you have any creativity in you at all, you will do just fine!

Good Luck!
Reply:That will depend on the company. I say, go talk to them and see what they tell you. If they're interested in hiring you, they may pay for the classes, or at least a portion of the cost for them.
Reply:Most flower shops train their own people. You could research this by dressing in what you would wear to a job interview and asking at some flower shops. If you know where the wholesale flower market is in your town, you could go there and ask around. People there might even have a lead for who needs help.

I would like to open a small florist shop, but i dont now were or how to go about this i dont have capital?

After many years my dream would be to open a small florist, but the situation im in is somewhat difficult. I had to change my life around for personal reasons and would like to embark and a new start and a career. I dont like the fact i have to rely on handouts from the goverment, so i would like to bring my dream to reality, but short of winning the lottery how can iget help with this. I would not be able to get any capital, but could there be some kind of goverment funding to help me on my way.. I am due to start a floristery course at college and would dearly love to offer something back into to society again.

I would like to open a small florist shop, but i dont now were or how to go about this i dont have capital?
In addition to the other answers, there should be an Enterprise Centre in your locality (I'm guessing that you're from the UK) where you can

a) go on training courses to learn about finance and drawing up business plans (muy importante)

b) find out what local sources of funding there are.

If you're on benefits, it's tough to get funding from banks, but they know a good business plan when they see one.
Reply:If you want to start a small business you can put together a business proposal and go to see your bank manager to arrange a business loan
Reply:The first thing is to do is what you are doing already - if you haven't got the recognised qualifications it would be impossible.

You are probably going to need a lot more experience than a training course will give you. Get a job in a florists and see what it's really like as a job of work not a hobby.

To raise money it's often possible to sell your skills to friends and neighbours if you can do a good job at a good price word will spread BUT remember that you will have to make a living and pay overheads out of your prices when you take the plunge and go 'legit'.

Before you go chasing your tail after the mythical generous bank ........... don't bother. Any manager who isn't gaga will need 50:50 matching capital and 'bricks and mortar security' for the loan. These days sanction limits for front line managers are tiny, you'd probably get more from a credit card and the cost wouldn't be that much higher once you've paid the 'arrangement fees' for the loan.

Don't forget car boot sales and market stalls, that's where shopkeepers start these days.

One word of encouragement - have you seen how much people will pay for a wreath these days?

Come to think of it......... Christmas Wreaths for doors are catching on in the UK, foliage can be aquired from hedgerows (ask the landowner first) or offer to cut someones hedge. Reasonably priced at a car boot sale you could start raising the money now.

It is possible to earn money without affecting benefits - check with your SS office and they will probably be helpful after recovering from the shock of someone contacting them......

It is very tough and people who haven't ever been there will never understand the situation you are in. Most of the advisors and 'experts' wouldn't know a profit if it got up and bit them in the backside - if they did they wouldn't be working as advisors for peanuts would they.

Good Luck

P.S - I liked the 'Mr Meaners' joke in the previous reply, my last Bank Manager was definately one before we sacked him................
Reply:Apply online at www.surefirefinance.co.uk for a commercial loan to help fund your business.
Reply:I don't have much advice for you on the $$ end but on the actual business part I can give you some hard learned lessons.

First, work in a flower shop before you decide to open your own business. Owning your own shop is more than just playing with flowers. You have to be GREAT with money, not just good, you have to be willing to work very looooonnnng hours, you have to be physically able to work for long hours at a time with your fingers and hands.

You must be willing to do everything from scrub the commodes and buckets. You have to keep all surfaces that you are working on spotless. You must have some sort of customer service skills. Lol, I could go on and on but I am sure you get the picture.

Being a florist is hard, hard work with little or no reward (at first). You must be prepared not to bring home a pay check for at least the first two years.

Do your research and I wish you the best!
Reply:Provided that you and your bank have had a really good relationship and there have been no mr.meaners, it might be an idea to go talk to your mananger about a possible business loan.

If you have a business plan and can show him your intentions and make sure you have covered all the angles, perhaps he could advise where possible and offer some help to get you started.

Other than the bank helping you, could a reliable family member help get you on your way? what about a business partner or offer them a share.
Reply:Shirl? What is a Mr Meaner????? If you mean "misdemeanour" should you really be answering the question?

My advice to the Asker is to get a job first, probably in a florist. Get some experience, save some money and show a bank you are prepared to invest in your own talents.
Reply:Ask the lecturer at your floristry course. They will have insight into the local situation and may be able to recommend sources of capital
Reply:I have built 2 successful businesses and the rule is: do your research. Is there a need for whatever you're doing in your area. If necessary conduct a survey to find this out. What is the competition? Do a spreadsheet of projected sales/profits and overheads and treat this as your forecast. Business is common sense. For funding try the Princes trust.

Yeah what miller said.
Reply:I managed a flower shop for a few years. Yes, location is very important but what you produce out of your shop is the most important thing. If there is a flower auction in your city, buy your flowers from there 'cause they will be cheapest - then you can sell your flowers for the best price. Always have a huge selection of flowers and never run out and make sure your flower designer is very good. One other thing we always did - we never said no. If someone wanted flowers delivered, we said yes and got those flowers delivered even if we had to do it ourselves. Also, when you chose a name for your flower shop, try to make it start with the "flower" or with the letter "a" That way, it will show up in the business phone book first and if it starts with the word 'flower', then if someone phones the operator and asks for the name of a flower shop, it'll come up on the operator's computer first. Good luck!

What are some good books on Flower arranging and owning a florist shop?

One book I like is Creative Design-Flower Arranging by Jan Hall and Sarah Waterkeyn. It has flowers, equipments used, care of flowers, etc. Or go to the library where there's a lot of flower arranging books, or

get an apprentice job at a local flower shop. You'll learn how to clean and care for flowers and plants first before you can learn how to arrange flowers. You might be asked to clean buckets, answer phones, make bows, clean floors and other routine tasks that floral shops have to do everyday. By doing that, you would be able to gauge if you are really inclined to open your own flower shop. Local florists are going by the wayside because of internet floral gatherers, do you think you can compete with these internet businesses that are well financed? If you have a considerable amount of money to start your own floral shop business, you might want to buy an existing flower shop with existing accounts, and hopefully you have a marketing background to be able to market it. Good luck!

Your best bet would most likely be to actually work for a florist for a few months, say six months. Learn the tricks of the trade, the ins and outs, pick up on the nuances and subtleties that make for a great florist.

Customer service is number one here, make your focus that, practice arranging flowers, look for ideas everywhere, weddings, magazines, movies, the park (mother nature has a green thumb too!), and yes, even funerals ans hospitals.

Be imaginative (but not crazy), think of the purposes that flowers are given and go from there. Put yourself in the recipient's place and think about what you would expect from a floral arrangement. The sky is the limit!

Good Luck.
Reply:The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal %26amp; Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

What's a good name for a florist/gift shop?

I am planning on opening a upscale contemporary floral and gift shop in an affluent urban area. I want a name that will be memorable, and appeal to my demos, just not something that sounds too snotty.

How hard is it to have a little in town florist shop. Not to sell anything big but just to sell some flowers?

I want to sell flowers, herbs and Veggies. How hard would that be. I'm not that old though

I don't know about where you live, but here, most people doing impulse purchases of fresh cut flowers buy them at grocery stores or Wal-Mart--it's just more convenient. I doubt you could compete with the convenience and the low prices to get into that market.

Florists typically have to have some sort of connection to other markets, by belonging to a national chain such as FTD 1-800 flowers, etc. so that they get phone orders for bouquets from out of town. They may also benefit from being located close to a funeral home and getting funeral business, or from getting a word of mouth reputation for doing good event flowers (such as weddings) and getting contracts for these regularly.

Why not get a job in an existing flower shop in your area to learn the tricks of the trade and get a better idea whether or not it is something you could do. You might just luck into an opportunity to buy out an existing shop with a client base and a good reputation.

If you are wanting to do herbs and veggies, too, you might also consider having a booth at a local farmer's market or coop.
Reply:I don't think you are serious, so here's the bottom line.

1) Many mom%26amp;pop flower shops are failing now, meaning they are not profitable enough.

2) Income of a small flower shop is typically only about 10% of the revenue. So if you need 30K a year to survive, your shop must have a yearly revenue of about 300K. Anything less than that would not be survivable.

FTD, Teleflora, 1-800 (Bloomnet) are called wire-services. Most florists are members of at least one of those. Wire-services are NOT as profitable as local sales, because of the various reasons that I don't think I need to explain at this point. Most successful flower shops draw %26gt;90% of their revenues from local clients.

What kind of credentials do you need to work in a florist's shop?

I've heard you need a degree to be a florist, but I just want to work in one, helping with sales or displays. I can't find any decent information on the subject, and was wondering if anyone could supply me with their own knowledge. I don't want to call the shop until I have some idea of what to expect. Could you help?

What kind of credentials do you need to work in a florist's shop?
Hi! A few years ago, when I was an undergrad, I came home one summer to find that a florist nearby posted a "help wanted" sign for general help. I ended up getting the job because you don't need any experience to work at a flower shop unless you want to be a floral designer. Since most of the work deals with cleaning flowers, making bouquets, and helping customers think up ideas for their arrangement, it's one of those jobs that you learn by doing. All you need is a willingness to learn, confidence, good customer service skills (especially good phone skills), and a tolerance for being bossed around a little bit - the designers are really only there to design, and they will expect you to do all the grunt work. What's great though, is that when designers aren't busy, they'll teach you a thing or two about making arrangements. The flower shop was definitly the most fun job I have ever had.

Best of luck to you. There are tons of flower shops, so hit up all of them and see if they are hiring. Some good times to apply are in the very early spring, before Mother's Day (that's when shops need all the help they can get) or in the fall, before the holidays. The spring is the most profitable time for a flower shop, and the late summer is the least - so your chances of getting a job are less now than if you applied in the spring. Just go in there and tell them what you want to do, like when you apply for any other job. You really don't need any special know-how to do this job well, and they'll be more interested in your personality and friendliness rather than your experience, or lack thereof.
