To Work In A Flower Shop Do You Need Training Or To Take Florist Classes?

Do you have to have floral training or experience? Or will they hire someone who has never taken any classes and train them? Im talking about just a flower shop in the mall.

To Work In A Flower Shop Do You Need Training Or To Take Florist Classes?
As a florist, I can tell you that it varies by person.

When I went to work for the first time, I was inexperienced and learned on the job. That gave me the incentive to pursue an associates degree in floriculture.

I have seen girls with experience hired....that have proved to be a mistake. Often times they over exagerate their abilities.

I have also seen newbees come in and they can be easily trained because they haven't learned any bad habits.

If i were you, I would go and talk to the manager. Express your interest in the job and let them know that you are willing to learn and do your best.

Chances are, they will take your name down and contact you...especially with Mothers Day and prom time just around the corner.

don't expect to start "arranging" right away. You may have telephone duty for a while, until you learn. Be eager to learn and do you best....don't get discouraged, if you have any creativity in you at all, you will do just fine!

Good Luck!
Reply:That will depend on the company. I say, go talk to them and see what they tell you. If they're interested in hiring you, they may pay for the classes, or at least a portion of the cost for them.
Reply:Most flower shops train their own people. You could research this by dressing in what you would wear to a job interview and asking at some flower shops. If you know where the wholesale flower market is in your town, you could go there and ask around. People there might even have a lead for who needs help.
